The short story
dataportales is a one-topic travel publication. Instead of a magazine full of destinations, we keep a single, carefully maintained comparison of ten big casino resorts, aimed at the traveller who has picked a shortlist and now wants the boring-but-vital logistics side by side.
The publisher behind it is Barona Band of Mission Indians, with its office on file at 1932 Wildcat Canyon Road, Lakeside, CA 92040, United States. Our inbox is contact@dataportales.com.
Scope
Everything we write is about staying somewhere: the room, the route in from the airport, the pool, the spa, the park next door, the view. Our site provides information exclusively about accommodation, resort leisure and travel amenities. We do not promote or facilitate participation in gambling. When a property has a casino, it shows up once, as a neutral line in its facilities list, and nowhere else.
Funding
Our income is affiliate commission. The green buttons lead to each hotel's own website and the secondary links lead to Booking.com; some of those routes are tracked, so a partner can credit us when a reservation follows. Nothing about your rate changes because of that. Nobody can buy a place on the list, and no hotel sees our wording before it goes live.
How a hotel earns a place
A property had to clear every one of these bars:
- Worth it without the casino — somebody who never visits the casino would still pick it for its pools, park, gardens, spa, views or event venue.
- Reachable — a major airport within sensible distance, and a route from the arrivals hall to the lobby that we can actually describe.
- Transparent — an official website that spells out its room categories and core house rules.
- Variety — together, the ten cover different continents and different kinds of trip: city, coast, family, cool hills.
The running order is our editorial call: how much the resort gives a guest who came for the stay, balanced against the effort of getting there. We deliberately keep it as prose and position — there are no numeric grades anywhere on dataportales.
House rules for our writers
- Source facts from the hotel's official pages, or from fixtures that do not move — a gondola, a harbour site, a landmark tower.
- Anything that drifts over time (a charge, a timetable, an age limit) is framed as a question to put to the hotel, never as a quoted figure.
- No stars, no tallies of guest reviews, no quotes from "happy guests", no live-booking counters.
- We use no hotel photography and no hotel logos.
- A commercial deal can never buy inclusion, a better position or softer wording.
Fixing mistakes
Seen something stale? Send it via the contact page or straight to contact@dataportales.com, naming the hotel and the line in question. An editor compares it with what the property itself publishes; if you are right, the entry is corrected and the date at the foot of the page moves forward. Any reshuffle of the list order is recorded on this page.
